Qualifications

• Active RN license in good standing.
• Behavioral health/psychiatric setting experience preferred.
• Strong leadership and communication skills; supervise clinical staff.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient care requirements on each unit by rounds throughout the hospital.
• Ensure departmental staffing plans are implemented appropriately.
• Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
• Assist staff to use staffing and resources efficiently to meet patient care needs.
• Provide immediate follow-up, documentation and incident communication to management.
• Respond to emergencies and assist as necessary.
• Identify and solve administrative/operational problems as a resource.
• Coordinate with other departments for timely problem solving.
• Interpret and ensure adherence to hospital policies and nursing philosophy.
• Report significant incidents to administrator-on-call/DON or Nurse Manager.
• Provide ongoing feedback to staff and assist with performance evaluations.
• Identify staff education needs and coordinate with DON/Nurse Manager.
• Provide education, remediation, and skill competency assessment.
• Monitor documentation for adherence to rules and regulations.
• Ensure environment of care requirements are met (quality logs, infection control).
• Apply the nursing process to develop individualized care plans and outcomes.
• Identify discharge planning outcomes and prescribe interventions to achieve them.
• Provide patient teaching and family education as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of psychiatric disorders and suitable nursing interventions.
• Maintain therapeutic milieu in collaboration with patients and healthcare team.
• Administer medications safely and educate on medications.
• Review and update medical records per policy; document care and progress.
• Follow up on client care responsibilities and communicate needs to staff.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
