Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist to support surgeons during general and specialized procedures. The RNFA will work closely with the OR team to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for each operation.

The role requires an active RN license (Illinois or applicable state), CNOR certification, BLS within 30 days, and at least 2 years of perioperative nursing experience. The RNFA may scrub or circulate as needed and may participate in post‑operative care and education.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN with perioperative nursing experience.
• CNOR is required; BLS within 30 days of hire.
• 2+ years perioperative nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries.
• Ensure needed trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready.
• Provide patient care and support during procedures.
• Administer medications as directed.
• Scrub and circulate based on unit needs.
• Assist in draping, exposure, and tissue handling.
• Monitor vitals and communicate patient status.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
• Perform post-operative assessments and monitor recovery.
• Assist with room turnover and equipment coordination.
