Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a skilled RN First Assist to support surgeons across general and specialized operations. The RNFA will perform independent perioperative assessments and postoperative care while collaborating with the surgical team.

The ideal candidate holds an Illinois RN license with CNOR, BLS within 30 days, and at least two years of perioperative nursing experience. The role involves assisting in room turnover, instrumentation readiness, and postoperative evaluations within a hospital

Qualifications

Current RN license in good standing (Illinois IDFPR) and CNOR certification.
BLS certification within 30 days of hire (AHA).
Minimum 2+ years of perioperative nursing experience.

Responsibilities

Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries; ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready.
Provide direct patient care and perioperative support.
Administer medications when appropriate.
Scrub and circulate as needed; drape and expose surgical area.
Position patient and prep operating room.
Monitor vital signs during procedures and post‑op recovery.
Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
Document postoperative assessments and communicate health status to family.
Participate in room turnover and equipment coordination.
