Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist to support the surgeon and team during operative procedures. The RNFA will perform perioperative assessment, post-operative evaluation, and independent nursing actions as needed within the intra-operative team.

The role requires certification as an RN, BLS within 30 days, and CNOR, with at least two years of perioperative nursing experience. Eligible candidates will collaborate across OR staff to ensure safe, efficient care.

Qualifications

• RN license (state-specific).
• BLS within 30 days of hire.
• CNOR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries.
• Prepare trays, instrumentation, and supplies for procedures.
• Provide patient care and support.
• Administer medications.
• Scrub and circulate as unit needs require.
• Control bleeding and suture incisions, drape and expose tissue.
• Position and prepare patient on the operating table.
• Monitor vital signs and heart rate.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
• Post-operative assessments and monitor for pain/complications.
• Study patient history and health assessments.
• Manage supplies and equipment to maintain efficiency.
