Job summary

Carle Health in Springfield, IL seeks an experienced RN First Assist (RNFA) to support surgeons during general and specialized operations. The RNFA performs perioperative assessment, independent nursing duties, and post-operative evaluation, collaborating closely with the surgical team.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years in perioperative nursing, valid RN license in Illinois, CNOR preferred, and CNOR certification.

Qualifications

RN license valid in Illinois with IDFPR.
BLS within 30 days - AHA.
RNFA certification or equivalent perioperative nursing education.

Responsibilities

Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries.
Collaborates with surgeons and OR team to prepare trays, instruments, and supplies.
Provide patient care and support.
Administer medications.
Perform surgical tasks such as controlling bleeding, suturing, draping, exposure, and tissue handling.
Position and prepare the patient on the operating table.
Monitor vitals and heart rate during procedures.
Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
Communicate patient health to family.
Perform post-operative assessments and monitor for pain or complications.
Review patient history and health assessments.
Monitor surgical site for healing or infection.
Participate in research.
Scrub and circulate as needed by the unit.
Prepare supplies and coordinate equipment to maintain efficiency; charge for equipment.
Assist in room turnover.
