Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist (RNFA) to support surgeons in general and specialized operations. The RNFA will independently perform perioperative assessments and post-operative evaluations while collaborating with the OR team to ensure equipment, trays, and supplies are ready for each case.

The position requires RN licensure, BLS, CNOR and completion of an accredited RNFA program, with at least 2 years of perioperative nursing experience.

Qualifications

• RN license (IDFPR or equivalent)
• BLS certification within 30 days - AHA
• CNOR certification
• RNFA program completion with perioperative nursing focus

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries with OR team prep of trays and instruments
• Provide direct patient care and support before, during, and after procedures
• Administer medications as required during perioperative care
• Perform surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, draping and tissue handling
• Position patient on the operating table and prep for surgery
• Monitor vitals and heart rate intraoperatively
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare
• Conduct post-operative assessments and monitor for pain or complications
• Review patient history and health status pre-op
• Monitor surgical site for healing or infection
• Participate in research when appropriate
• Possess ability to scrub and circulate per unit needs
• Prepare supplies and coordinate equipment to ensure efficiency and cost control
• Assist in room turnover and turnover-related tasks
