Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to support surgeons in general and specialized operations. You will collaborate with the OR team to ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready, while delivering direct patient care and post‑operative evaluation.

The RNFA performs independent perioperative assessments and post‑operative care, assisting in room turnover and equipment coordination.

Qualifications

RNFA must be licensed RN with CNOR and BLS within 30 days
College Diploma in Nursing and RNFA certificate as required credentials
Perioperative nursing experience is preferred

Responsibilities

Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries with proper trays and supplies
Provide patient care and support during perioperative period
Administer medications as needed
Perform surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, draping and tissue handling
Position patient and prepare operating field
Monitor vitals and communicate patient status to team
Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare
Conduct postoperative assessments and monitor for pain or complications
Review patient history and health status
Monitor surgical site for healing or infection
Participate in research
Scrub and circulate based on unit needs
Prepare supplies and coordinate equipment to maintain efficiency
Assist in room turnover
