Job summary

Carle Health seeks an experienced Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) to support surgeons during general and specialized surgeries. The role coordinates trays, instrumentation and supplies for each procedure and works across the OR team to ensure readiness.

The RNFA practices perioperative nursing with independent assessment and postoperative evaluation. Collaborates with surgeons, administers medications, and monitors patient vitals throughout the operation and recovery.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN with CNOR and BLS within 30 days.
• RNFA program completion.
• Minimum 2 years perioperative nursing.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries, ensuring needed trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready for each procedure.
• Provide patient care and support.
• Administer medications.
• Perform surgical tasks such as controlling bleeding, suturing, draping, and tissue handling.
• Position and prepare the patient on the operating table.
• Monitor vital signs and heart rate.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
• Perform post-operative assessments and monitor for pain or complications.
• Review patient history and health assessments.
• Monitor surgical site healing or infection.
• Participate in research.
• Scrub and circulate as needed.
• Prepare supplies and assist in organization of department.
• Assist in room turnover.
