Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist (RNFA) to support surgeons in general and specialized procedures. The RNFA will collaborate with the OR team to ensure instruments and supplies are ready, provide direct patient care, administer medications, and handle intraoperative tasks including bleeding control and suturing.

The role also covers patient prep, vital sign monitoring, and post-operative assessments.

Qualifications

• RNFA requires Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with IDFPR, BLS within 30 days, CNOR credential.
• RNFA education includes nursing diploma and completion of an accredited RNFA program.
• Perioperative nursing experience is required (2+ years).

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries with OR team coordination.
• Provide patient care and support during perioperative period.
• Administer medications as needed during procedures.
• Perform surgical tasks: bleeding control, suturing, draping, tissue handling.
• Position and prep patient on operating table and monitor vitals.
• Educate patient and family about operation and aftercare.
• Conduct post-operative assessments and monitor recovery.
• Review patient history and health assessments for surgery.
