Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to support surgeons in the operating room and oversee perioperative nursing care. The role requires independent perioperative assessment and post-operative evaluation, with collaboration across the OR team.

Ideal candidates hold an RN license, CNOR, BLS, and RNFA program completion, with 2+ years of perioperative nursing experience and the ability to scrub and circulate as needed.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in state and CNOR certification.
• Completion of accredited RNFA program.
• Minimum 2 years perioperative nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries; ensure trays, instrumentation, and supplies are prepared.
• Provide patient care and support.
• Administer medications.
• Perform surgical procedures such as bleeding control and suturing, draping, exposure, and tissue handling.
• Position and prepare the patient on the operating table.
• Monitor patient vital signs and heart rate.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare.
• Communicate patient health to family; perform post-operative assessments.
• Study patient history and health assessments.
• Monitor surgery site for healing or infection.
• Participate in research.
• Possess ability to scrub and circulate as needed.
• Prepare supplies; assist in organizing and coordinating supplies to maintain efficiency.
• Assist in room turnover.
