Job summary

Carle Health is seeking an RN First Assist to support the surgeon during operations, ensuring safe, efficient care and optimal patient outcomes through intra‑operative collaboration.

You will hold RN licensure with CNOR and BLS, complete an accredited RNFA program, and have 2+ years perioperative nursing experience. Responsibilities include assisting with exposure, suturing, patient prep, post‑op assessments, and education.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN with current credentials and CNOR certification.
• Completion of accredited RNFA program and BLS within 30 days.
• Minimum 2 years perioperative nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries; ensure needed trays, instrumentation, and supplies are ready.
• Provide patient care and support.
• Administer medications.
• Perform surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding and suturing incisions, draping, exposure, and tissue handling.
• Position and prepare the patient on the operating table.
• Monitor vitals and heart rate.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare; communicate health status to family.
• Perform post‑operative assessments; monitor for pain/complications.
• Study patient history and health assessments.
• Monitor surgical site for healing or infection.
• Participate in research.
