Job summary

The RN First Assist (RNFA) at Carle Health partners with surgeons to provide critical perioperative nursing care across general and specialized surgeries. You will assist with instrumentation, positioning, hemostasis, suturing, draping, and exposure, while ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes.

You will educate patients and families, monitor vitals, participate in post-operative assessments, and collaborate with the OR team to maintain efficient operations and quality care in a busy

Qualifications

Licensed RN (Illinois IDFPR)
BLS within 30 days (AHA)
CNOR certification preferred or required per posting

Responsibilities

Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries and ensure needed trays and supplies are ready
Provide patient care and support
Administer medications as directed
Perform surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, draping, exposure, and tissue handling
Position and prepare patient on operating table
Monitor vitals and heart rate during procedures
Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare
Perform post-operative assessments and monitor for pain/complications
Review patient history and health assessments
Monitor surgical site for healing or infection
Participate in research and room turnover
