Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to support surgeons during general and specialized operations. The RNFA conducts perioperative assessment and post‑operative care, working closely with the surgical team and independently from circulating nurses.

This role requires RN licensure (IDFPR), CNOR and BLS, a nursing diploma or RNFA program completion, and at least two years of perioperative nursing experience.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN per IDFPR; CNOR and BLS certifications required.
• Nursing diploma or completion of accredited RNFA program.
• Minimum 2 years perioperative nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries with appropriate instruments.
• Provide patient care and support throughout perioperative care.
• Administer medications as appropriate.
• Scrub and circulate per unit needs and coordinate supplies.
• Position patient, monitor vital signs, and manage intraoperative events.
• Educate patient and family on operation and aftercare; document health status.
• Participate in post-operative assessments and research activities.
