Job summary

Capital Health seeks a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to enhance the accuracy of patient records and DRG coding. You will collaborate with physicians, nurses, and HIM staff to ensure documentation reflects clinical complexity and risk of mortality.

Required RN credentials with CDI-related certification preferred; two years in acute care or related coding experience is desirable. The role is on-site, with opportunities for professional development and cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing program.
• RN required; BSN preferred.
• CCDS or CDIP credential preferred.

Responsibilities

• Completes initial reviews of patient records within 24-48 hours of admission to evaluate documentation for DRG assignment.
• Performs follow-up reviews during hospitalization to support discharge DRG and severity of illness.
• Queries physicians to obtain missing or unclear documentation.
• Educates care teams on clinical documentation guidelines and accuracy.
• Works with coding professionals to ensure data accuracy for reimbursement.
