Job summary

St. Luke's University Health Network in Allentown, PA seeks a Registered Nurse Bed Coordinator to prioritize and coordinate patient transfers across the network, balancing bed availability with clinical needs.

You will work within the Bed Planning and Transfer Center and Epic EMR to review charts, determine placement, communicate with providers, and support case management while maintaining excellent patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a professional nursing program.
• BSN preferred.
• Current PA RN license or eligibility through reciprocity.

Responsibilities

• Answers all calls into the call center in a timely fashion, with exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette.
• Works in Bed Planning and Transfer Center modules in Epic.
• Uses medical appropriateness criteria for transfers/admissions; reviews chart for treatment plan and patient details.
• Reviews patient insurance to determine transfer eligibility and obtains authorizations if needed.
• Initiates Case Management referrals when appropriate.
• Coordinates department activities and promotes cooperation to meet objectives.
• Maintains harmonious working relationships within the hospital.
• Uses Capacity Management Dashboard in Epic to monitor census and bed availability.
• Applies triage and clinical skills to determine placement and prioritization of transfers.
• Coordinates placement of OR patients with PACU/ASC to minimize disruption.
