Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate in the United States to support the Store Manager with staffing, merchandising, inventory control, and daily store operations. The role focuses on developing internal candidates for future Store Manager positions and is time-limited.

Responsibilities include recruiting, inventory management, cash handling, ensuring pricing accuracy, and maintaining a safe, well-organized store environment.

Qualifications

• Reads and interprets diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Performs basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages).
• Knows cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposits.
• Learns IBM cash register functions to generate reports.
• Understands inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Familiar with cash, facility and safety policies (deposits, keys, SAFE and STARS programs).
• Knows recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling and termination practices with legal compliance.
• Exhibits effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills.
• Organizes work with attention to detail.
• Solves problems with limited standardization.
• Some locations may prefer bilingual Spanish speakers.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Assist with store merchandising and staging, stocking and pricing.
• Assist in inventory management, damages, markdowns, scans, paperwork and controls.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide customer service leadership.
• Model company procedures and policies per handbook and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening/closing activities.
• Safeguard company funds in designated bank.
• Maintain cash control and security practices.
• Ensure clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment.
• Operate store in manager's absence.
• Review operating statements for trends, labor, profitability, inventory turn and expenses.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation on time.
