Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Store Manager Candidate to assist the Store Manager with supervision, staffing, merchandising, inventory, and daily store operations. This role is designed to develop external candidates for progression to Store Manager and is limited in duration.

The position emphasizes leadership in customer service, cash control, compliance with policies, and safe, well-organized stores. Travel to nearby locations may be required during the development period.

Qualifications

• Reading and interpreting diagrams, safety rules and operating instructions.
• Able to perform basic math including percentages and profit calculations.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and Cash deposit controls.
• Learn IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
• Understanding inventory management and merchandising practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Support store merchandising and proper pricing of merchandise.
• Help manage inventory, damages, markdowns, and paperwork.
• Follow ordering practices to meet in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership.
• Model company policies and SOPs.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Assist in securing store funds and cash controls.
• Maintain clean, well-stocked stores and safe environment.
• Operate store during manager's absence.
• Review operating statements to identify trends and opportunities.
• Complete paperwork on time and accurately.
