Job summary

Inova Schar Cancer Center Retail Pharmacy is seeking a Retail Pharmacy Technician 1 to join the team. This PRN role covers Monday–Friday and weekends and requires flexibility.

You will assist the pharmacist with dispensing medications, process prescriptions, maintain temperature logs, and support inventory and patient care in a fast-paced cancer center setting.

Minimum qualifications include High School or GED, Virginia registration or Pharmacy intern license, and BLS within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• One (1) year Retail Pharmacy Technician experience.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Virginia Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy intern license; BLS within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Pharmacist in reviewing, processing, preparing, filling, labeling and dispensing medications and supplies.
• Clean equipment and maintain temperature logs per policies.
• Monitor inventory for expired products and record in Expiring Medication log book.
• Enter prescription information into computer systems (patient/prescriber search, drug selection, insurance processing).
• Prepare medications for clients by counting pills, labeling bottles.

Retail Pharmacy Technician 1 Job Responsibilities:

• Assists the Pharmacist in reviewing, processing, preparing, filling, labeling and dispensing medications and supplies.
• Cleans equipment and maintains all required temperature logs according to system policies and procedures.
• Checks medication and administration supply inventory for out-of-date products, removes products from inventory and works with the appropriate resource to record out of date products in the Expiring Medication log book.
• Performs computer entry of prescription information including, but not limited to, patient/prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation/entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution.
• Prepares medications for clients through mixing medications, counting pills, and labeling bottles.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: High School or GED.
• Experience: One (1) year Retail Pharmacy Technician experience.
• Certification: Registered Pharmacy Technician in the state of Virginia or a Pharmacy intern license. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.
