Job description

Retail Operations Manager – North America

San Francisco, United States | Posted on 03/20/2025

Ultrahuman’s products are not only sold online; we envision a world where our cutting-edge health tech is also experienced in stores, clinics, and fitness centers. As the Retail Operations Manager – North America, you will bring that vision to life across the continent. In this role, you’ll channel Ultrahuman’s high-performance, engineering-driven ethos into exceptional retail execution. Much like Apple’s attention to detail in its stores or Tesla’s unique showroom experiences, you will ensure Ultrahuman’s retail presence in North America is efficient, on-brand, and delivers a wow factor to customers. You’ll plan and manage the rollout of physical points of sale, coordinate inventory so that products are always available, and train teams to embody our mission of empowering health through technology.

Responsibilities:

Retail Rollout Planning: Develop and execute plans for opening Ultrahuman retail touchpoints (could be flagship stores, pop-up experiences, or partnerships within existing retail chains) across North America. This includes selecting locations in coordination with the business team, overseeing store setup, and ensuring each launch is on schedule and meets Ultrahuman’s standards.

Inventory Management & Logistics: Ensure that each store or retail partner in NA is always optimally stocked. Work with the supply chain team to forecast demand per region/store, manage inventory allocation, and coordinate timely replenishments. Prevent stockouts or overstock situations by implementing smart inventory tracking and auditing systems at each location.

POS Systems & Operations: Oversee the deployment and maintenance of point-of-sale (POS) systems in stores. Ensure that the checkout process is seamless and that sales data flows back into Ultrahuman’s central systems. Conduct regular audits of store operations – from transaction accuracy to adherence to operational protocols – akin to a rigorous quality check to keep the “machine” running smoothly.

Training & Team Enablement: Develop training programs for store staff or representatives in partner outlets. Educate them on Ultrahuman’s product features, the science behind our health platform, and our customer service philosophy. By imparting first-principles understanding of how our tech helps users, ensure the front-line teams can answer detailed questions and provide an excellent, knowledgeable customer experience.

Continuous Improvement & Reporting: Collect feedback from stores and customers to identify areas of improvement in retail operations. Perhaps foot traffic is high but conversion is low in one store – analyze why and work on solutions (store layout changes, staff training refreshers, local marketing tweaks). Provide regular reports on retail performance, insights, and actionable plans to leadership.

Requirements

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, or related field. 5+ years of experience in retail operations or store management, preferably in consumer electronics, wearable tech, or a high-end consumer brand known for great retail (experience with companies like Apple, Tesla, etc. is a plus).

Operational Excellence: Demonstrated experience in launching or managing multiple retail locations. Strong understanding of inventory management, POS systems, and general store operations.

Analytical Skills: Comfortable with data – able to forecast demand, track sales metrics, and analyze performance to make informed decisions. Proficiency with Excel and perhaps familiarity with inventory management software or ERP systems.

Communication & Training: Excellent communication and people skills. Experience in hiring or training store staff. Ability to translate technical product knowledge into relatable, sales-friendly language.

Problem-Solving: Proven ability to handle on-ground challenges proactively. Whether it’s a logistics hiccup or an in-store technical issue, you can troubleshoot under pressure and implement solutions quickly.

Preferred Experience:

Regional Knowledge: Familiarity with the North American retail landscape – understanding consumer behavior differences across the US and Canada, knowing key retail partners or channels for tech products, and awareness of regulatory considerations for retail operations in various states/provinces.

Brand Ambassador: Experience executing a premium brand experience in retail. For example, you’ve managed visual merchandising for a tech product or maintained brand standards across multiple outlets.

Tech-Savvy: High comfort with technology – both our products (wearables, app) and the tools used to manage retail. Perhaps you’ve rolled out a new POS or inventory system before, or you’re quick to learn new software.

First-Principles Approach: A mindset of not just following retail playbooks, but creating new ones. You might have examples like developing a novel training program from scratch or setting up an unconventional but successful pop-up store, showing your willingness to innovate in operations.
