Job summary

Big Lots in Tennessee is seeking an Assistant Manager to deliver excellent customer service and support the Store Manager in daily operations. You will hire, train and develop store team members and assist with all store functions to meet company goals.

Responsibilities include opening/closing in the manager's absence, protecting assets, maintaining the sales floor and stockroom, and directing hourly staff when needed. Flexibility for shifts is required.

Qualifications

• Prefer prior retail and management experience.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and written skills.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform frequent walking, standing, kneeling and lifting with/without accommodations.
• Ability to work in a high energy, team environment.
• Ability to work a flexible, part‑time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hiring, training and development of store team members as delegated by the Store Manager.
• Assist with all store functions and day‑to‑day store activities as directed by the Store Manager.
• Open and close procedures in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Protect and secure store assets, including cash.
• Maintain store, stockroom and sales floor to company standards (recovery).
• Direct hourly Team Members when the Store Manager is not on the premises.
• Process all SSC Corporate directives and merchandise receipts/returns.
• Manage freight flow and merchandising needs; maintain stockroom organization.
