Job summary

Steak ’n Shake in Elgin, IL is seeking a hands-on Restaurant Manager to lead operations from the front, ensuring hospitality, food safety, and brand standards are consistently met across all shifts.

You’ll actively work the line, train and coach hourly staff, own cost controls and inventory, optimize labor, and drive KPI performance to deliver a superior guest experience in a fast-paced QSR environment.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of QSR or fast-casual restaurant management experience.
• Proven history of consistent work tenure and reliable leadership.
• Deep understanding of food cost management, labor optimization, and operational KPIs.
• Hands-on leadership—comfortable working the drive through or grill when needed.
• Tech-savvy with POS systems, inventory platforms, and invoice tools.
• Strong physical stamina: able to lift 50 lbs., stand all day in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Professionalism reflected in LinkedIn profile and resume.
• Track record in hospitality excellence and adapting to change in a team setting.
• Minimum of 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example—work the line, prep food, maintain cleanliness, and serve guests across all shifts (opening, mid-day, and closing).
• Wear a professional uniform daily and uphold brand standards, food safety practices, and service protocols.
• Own the P&L: manage food costs, control inventory, verify invoices, and drive labor efficiency.
• Oversee inventory from the back door to the front line.
• Recruit, train, and retain top hourly talent through clear feedback and coaching.
