Job summary

Alternative Services Connecticut, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Residential Manager to support the Residential Manager in overseeing program operations and direct care for residents with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities include supervising shifts, conducting performance appraisals, ensuring data accuracy in consumer files, coordinating staff meetings, and developing resident-centered plans while maintaining safety and compliance with DDS policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum possession of a High School Diploma or a G.E.D.
  • Two years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dually diagnosed; at least one year in a management role; education may substitute for experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured; may require travel using agency or personal vehicle.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration certifications.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and physically intervene as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Works vacant shifts if unable to find coverage and shares on-call coverage with Manager bi-weekly.
  • Assists Manager in conducting Residential Instructor performance appraisals.
  • Reviews monthly all consumer files for completion and accuracy of data collected on consumers.
  • Assists in preparation of staff meeting agendas and attends monthly Assistant Residential Manager meetings.
  • Participates in developing plans to meet residents’ needs and carries them out.
  • Acts as advocate and role model for consumers, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Documents activity pertaining to welfare of home or consumers on appropriate forms, including incidents, medication administration, and resident programs.
  • Distributes medications according to each consumer’s schedule and DDS guidelines.
  • Provides activities/programs for consumers during each shift; organizes and supervises interactions with consumers.
  • Provides a social environment that supports personal growth of each consumer.
  • Assists in supervising and safely transporting residents to community activities and programs.
  • Follows emergency procedures for fires, storms, outages, accidents, and incidents.
  • Monitors consumer behavior and implements behavior management programs as applicable; documents all.
  • Provides programmatic/statistical reports as required.
  • Maintains safety, cleanliness, and upkeep of home; conducts sanitation and safety inspections; makes minor repairs or alerts supervisor.
  • Maintains professional attitude with coworkers, management, and external agencies.
  • Knows consumer locations and adheres to all agency policies including medication administration, key control, IPs, evictions, and licensing requirements.
  • Alerts appropriate personnel to problems and documents incidents timely.
  • Complies with policies and programs required by DDS, ASI, and state/federal agencies.
  • Assists guardians/parents in implementing normalization/person-centered planning.
  • Reports violations of individuals’ rights to Executive Director; participates in investigations.
  • Attends in-service trainings; provides training as required; participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains thorough working knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Residential Manager or upper management.
  • Follows behavior support plan and documents.
