Job summary

Family Service of Rhode Island in Providence is seeking Direct Care Staff (Full-Time, Residential) to support adolescent females 13–20 in a licensed residential setting. Milieu Counselors provide direct care, supervision and trauma-informed interventions under the Trauma Systems Therapy model.

You will work with clinical and residential teams to implement treatment plans, lead daily groups, manage routines, and document in Credible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field, or significant residential/childcare experience.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Knowledge of cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.
• Capabilities to implement appropriate child management techniques, which may include passive physical restraint.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Requires valid driver’s license, reliable transportation with space for 3+ passengers.
• Bilingual/ASL skills add 6%, multilingual add 8% to base pay.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, hands-on support and supervision for youth throughout daily routines.
• Interact with residents to build positive, professional relationships.
• Complete Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) training and adhere to TST model.
• Participate in ongoing TST training and other evidence-based practices.
• Maintain consistency and structure within the program and daily schedule.
• Document professional and administrative information per agency standards (Shift Notes, Incident reports, Logs).
• Transport residents to appointments and participate in staff meetings and special trainings.
• Provide crisis intervention using the Handle with Care model when necessary.
• Drive company vehicles to transport clients to events.
