Job summary

Family Service of Rhode Island seeks Milieu Counselors to provide direct care and supervise adolescent residents under a trauma-informed model. You will collaborate with clinical teams to implement treatment plans and maintain a safe milieu that supports emotional and behavioral development.

Responsibilities include daily structuring, crisis intervention when needed, documenting in EMR, and transporting residents to activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in a field related to Human Services preferred; combination with experience considered.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
• Knowledge of cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic issues.
• Ability to implement child management techniques, which may include passive physical restraint.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Bilingual/ASL or multilingual abilities may be rewarded with pay adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, hands-on support and supervision for youth throughout their daily routines.
• Interact with residents to build positive, professional relationships.
• Attend Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) training and other evidence-based practices.
• Transport residents to appointments and obtain necessary documentation.
• Maintain professional documentation per agency guidelines (Credible).
• Drive company vehicles to transport clients to events.
• Provide emergency or crisis intervention when necessary.
