Job summary

Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut seeks compassionate individuals to join as Residential Specialists, supporting participants with disabilities in group homes or personal residences. This full-time role requires evening hours and is based in Bridgeport, CT.

You will assist with daily living tasks, promote independence, and help with medication and household management. A positive, patient approach is essential for success in this community-focused position.

Qualifications

• Must submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
• Satisfactory driving record and daily access to a reliable vehicle for frequent in-state driving.
• High School Diploma and experience working with persons with disabilities are required.
• First Aid and CPR are required (training after hire).
• Must be able to lift/carry 40 lbs. and stand for long periods.
• Must be able to stay awake during overnight positions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily living tasks required for participants.
• Guide residents to become more self-sufficient and independent.
• Assist with self-care, medication management, money management, and maintaining a household.
• Teach individuals proper communication, mobility, community transportation, and problem-solving skills.
• Provide daily briefing of activities to supervisor and complete daily documentation.
• Work with program participants at sites to ensure successful and timely completion of all assignments.
• Provide round-trip transportation to outings and appointments for program participants.
• If working in a 24-hour home or assigned 1:1 to a client, must keep the program participant in line of sight.
• Performs personal care assistance as required.
