Job summary

PACS in the United States is seeking an Activity Assistant to support the Activity Director in planning and delivering a creative, interactive activities program for residents, in accordance with applicable standards and guidelines.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and preferably one year of long-term care experience. Strong communication, organizational, and math skills are essential to assist with calendars, transportation, and resident assessments; physical demands apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferable one-year experience in a long term care facility.
• Ability to read technical procedures.
• Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
• Mathematical skills: fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions.
• Ability to solve practical problems.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

• Participate in planning and conducting of individual, small and large group activities.
• Assist in providing good communication between employees of all levels, residents, their families, support personnel, government agencies/personnel, and the public to meet residents' needs and best interests.
• Participate in community planning related to the facility's services and needs.
• Assist in development of monthly activity calendar and maintaining attendance records.
• Assist in developing and implementing plans of action to correct quality deficiencies as requested by Activities Director.
• Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
• Assist in arranging transportation for residents for outings, appointments, or discharge.
• Assist in developing a monthly activity schedule for residents including outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound residents.
• Encourage resident participation in self-initiated activities; provide materials including Braille or audio books as appropriate.
• Assist with assessment documentation and quarterly progress notes as assigned.
• Keep Activity Department clean, orderly and secure.
