Job summary

AeroVironment, based in California, is seeking a Research Scientist to advance biomaterials, protein engineering, biomanufacturing, and small molecule production in support of the Biomaterials Branch.

The role encompasses molecular biology, cloning, protein expression/purification, and microbial physiology under BSL-2 conditions, with opportunities to extend into high-throughput screening and advanced molecular characterization.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MS with 2+ years in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology.

Responsibilities

• Design plasmid construction, cloning, expression, and purification workflows.
• Engineer proteins for new or improved functions.
• Perform culture and assays in BSL-2 environments and quantify growth.
• Maintain ELN records and analyze complex data.
• Collaborate across biologists, chemists, and computational scientists.
• Prepare figures and reports for publications and presentations.
