Job summary

AV is seeking a versatile Research Scientist to support biomaterials, protein engineering, and biomanufacturing initiatives within the Biomaterials Branch. The role spans microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology to perform BSL-2 laboratory research on microbial physiology, cloning, and recombinant protein expression.

Responsibilities include designing molecular protocols, engineering proteins for novel functions, and performing both upstream expression and downstream purification.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS with 2+ years in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or related field.
• Experience with aseptic culture in a BSL-2 setting and core molecular biology techniques is required.
• Proven ability to express and purify recombinant proteins and troubleshoot experimental workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute molecular biology protocols including plasmid construction, cloning, recombinant expression, gene editing, and nucleic acid extraction.
• Engineer proteins to optimize functions for biomanufacturing and biomaterials applications.
• Perform upstream recombinant protein expression and downstream purification.
• Maintain meticulous research records and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams; prepare data visualizations and reports.
