Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist to support the Biomaterials Branch at AFRL, performing microbiology, molecular biology and protein engineering in a BSL-2 environment. The role involves plasmid construction, cloning, protein expression and purification, along with microbial culture, data analysis and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Candidates should have a PhD or MS with relevant experience, U.S. citizenship, and the ability to work at a government facility.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related field, or MS with 2+ years experience.
• U.S. Citizenship is required for government facility access.
• Experience with aseptic culture techniques in BSL-2.
• Proven proficiency in plasmid construction, cloning, and nucleic acid isolation.
• Protein expression and purification experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute molecular biology protocols, plasmid construction, cloning, and protein expression.
• Purify recombinant proteins and optimize functions for biomanufacturing/biomaterials.
• Culture and characterize bacteria and fungi in BSL-2 settings; perform PCR/qPCR/RT-PCR assays.
• Analyze data, maintain ELN documentation, and collaborate across interdisciplinary team.
