Job summary

Westwood Professional Services is seeking a Site Design Intern to join our civil engineering team, supporting site layout, grading, drainage, and access road design for renewable energy projects. The position offers exposure to industry standards and collaboration across internal and external teams.

You will learn to apply standards and assist in creating grading plans, drainage designs, erosion control, and construction documents, working with Senior Engineers.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program, preferably in Civil Engineering.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions on occasion.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers to obtain training and build foundational proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software used by Site Design Engineers.
• Assist in the preparation of grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and access road plans for solar, wind, and BESS sites.
• Support earthwork and stormwater calculations, including cut/fill balancing and pond sizing, under the guidance of Senior Engineers.
• Help prepare construction documents, including plan and profile sheets, details, and quantity takeoffs.
• Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across renewable energy projects to ensure effective communication and project progress.
• Travel to project sites as necessary to gather field data and interface directly with clients and contractors.
