Job summary

Westwood Professional Services invites a Site Design Intern to join our civil engineering team focused on site layout, grading, drainage, and access road design for utility-scale wind, solar, and BESS projects. You will work on projects ranging from preliminary site studies to full construction documents, applying AASHTO and NRCS guidance in real-world renewable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program, preferably Civil Engineering.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, interacting professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
• Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary environment.
• Willingness to attend site visits and work outdoors when needed.
• Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers to obtain training and build proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software.
• Assist in the preparation of grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and access road plans for solar, wind, and BESS sites.
• Support earthwork and stormwater calculations, including cut/fill balancing and pond sizing, under guidance of Senior Engineers.
• Help prepare construction documents, including plan and profile sheets, details, and quantity takeoffs.
• Coordinate with internal and external team members across renewable energy projects to ensure communication and progress.
• Travel to project sites as necessary to gather field data and interface with clients and contractors.
