Job summary

VetsEZ is seeking a VistA/MUMPS Developer for a 100% remote role supporting a large federal healthcare modernization project.

You will analyze existing VistA functionality, modify MUMPS code, and ensure secure handling of PII/PHI while aligning with VA security controls and NIST requirements. A US-based resident is required, working within an Agile team across multiple VistA packages.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional VistA/MUMPS development experience.
• Experience with VistA packages, modules, data structures, and dependencies.
• Experience with debugging, source control, peer code review, unit and integration testing, and Agile practices.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with secure software development knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Modify and enhance VistA/MUMPS apps to eliminate SSN usage and implement enterprise identifiers.
• Analyze routines, data structures, workflows, and dependencies to troubleshoot and implement secure changes.
• Develop and execute unit tests and support functional, integration, and UAT testing.
• Collaborate with QA, cybersecurity, and stakeholders to ensure stability and compliance.
• Follow secure software development practices and document changes and implementation considerations.
• Participate in Sprint Planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
