Job summary

Beacon Talent is seeking an Underwriting Manager to lead and develop a high-performing mortgage underwriting team in a remote, U.S.-based role. You will guide day-to-day underwriting operations, support complex loans, and partner with product, technology, and operations to improve quality and speed.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mortgage underwriting with leadership experience, strong credit expertise, and a continuous-improvement mindset.

Qualifications

Minimum 7+ years in mortgage underwriting.
Experience leading mortgage underwriters.
Strong knowledge of residential mortgage underwriting and credit guidelines.
Experience with conventional, FHA, VA, or other loan products.
Proficient in assessing income, assets, credit, liabilities, DTI, LTV/CLTV, and appraisals.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of mortgage underwriters, coaching and performance managing.
Oversee daily underwriting production and ensure timely loan moves.
Support escalated or complex loan scenarios and guide credit decisions.
Ensure decisions comply with agency, investor, regulatory, and company guidelines.
Monitor underwriting quality, productivity, turn times, and KPIs.
Identify bottlenecks and drive workflow improvements in underwriting processes.
Develop and maintain underwriting procedures and SOPs.
Collaborate with processing, closing, sales, and operations to keep loans moving.
Partner with product and technology teams to automate workflows.
Help build scalable underwriting processes as the company grows.
Stay updated on changes to agency, investor, and credit guidelines.
Promote accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
