Job summary

Banner Health Corporate is seeking a Trauma, GI, and General Surgery Physician Coder for a fully remote role. You will code E&M, surgeries, and critical care, with emphasis on Trauma, GI, and General Surgery coding.

Requires at least 1 year of General Surgery coding and active CPC/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC-A/RHIA/RHIT certification; work eligible in listed states. Ideal candidates may hold specialty certifications; you will work with coding software and abstracting systems in a remote setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with formal training in medical record keeping or an associated health care degree.
• Active certification: CPC/CCS/CCS-P/CCA/CPC-A/RHIA/RHIT with AHIMA/AAPC.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes medical information and accurately codes diagnoses and procedures.
• Abstracts diagnoses and codes; compiles complete records with signatures/authorizations.
• Provides QA for medical records; ensures compliance with coding rules and CMS/OIG/HCFA standards.
• Compiles daily/monthly reports and tabulates data from medical records.
• Assigns ICD/CPT codes per national guidelines; seeks clarification when needed.

Education

High school diploma/GED or equivalent; Associate’s degree in a related health care field

CPC, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC-A, RHIA, or RHIT (active with AHIMA or AAPC)
