Job summary

Banner Health Corporate is seeking a Physician Coder Quality Associate with extensive ambulatory physician-based coding experience. The role focuses on quality, denial prevention, and coaching fellow coders while supporting a national remote workforce.

Qualifications

• 5 years of current experience in ambulatory physician-based coding
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or equivalent
• Must be certified (AAPC or AHIMA) as defined in minimum qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide coding guidance for non-standard billing and reference information on clinical documentation to internal/external customers.
• Audit clinical documentation to ensure accurate coding and proper reimbursement; apply CMS, CPT, ICD-10 and NCCI guidelines.
• Assist in maintaining system-wide consistency in coding practices and ethics; identify training needs for staff.
• Serve as a knowledge resource for physician practice operations and revenue integrity teams; participate in quality initiatives.
• Research coding discrepancies and trends to support documentation improvements and revenue optimization.
• Maintain current knowledge of coding regulatory updates and guidance, including physician guidelines.
• Design, test and implement workflows in revenue cycle; collaborate with multiple teams.
• Act as a liaison for physician coding to inform informatics and EHR changes.
• Work independently, providing billing guidance and oversight for one or more facilities.
