Job summary

GFT is seeking an OE Transmission Line Engineer to join our Power Business Group. The role supports transmission line design for major utility projects, with hybrid work options in Roanoke, VA and surrounding locations.

You will review designs, coordinate feasibility studies, and mentor junior staff while ensuring compliance with NESC, IEEE, and NEC standards. The candidate should have 4+ years in transmission line design, a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, and strong skills in PLS-CADD,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Electrical, or Structural Engineering.
• 4+ years of transmission line design experience.
• Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, NEC standards.
• High proficiency in PLS-CADD.
• FAD Tools experience.
• Electrical utility/utility consulting background preferred.
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead transmission line design as Owner’s Engineer for major utility client.
• Participate in project meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Review submittals for constructability and compliance.
• Review transmission line segments with design software (PLS-CADD).
• Verify criteria docs, specs, and construction packages.
• Monitor schedules and manage material lead times.
• Ensure compliance with standards and client procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
