Next Step Systems is seeking a Technical Lead, Applications with a strong AI background for a fully remote role. You will own core architecture, drive backend and API strategy, and lead a senior team to deliver reliable AI-enabled products.

You will work hands-on to shape scalable systems, ensure observability, and balance performance with cost. The role requires shipping high-impact features and collaborating with ML leadership to translate models into real-world capabilities.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading application engineering for complex systems.
• AI experience required.
• Strong hands-on background building and shipping backend systems.
• Experience delivering AI-powered products with model integration trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Own the application engineering strategy across backend, mobile, and desktop.
• Lead and grow a senior applications team of engineers.
• Ensure production-grade reliability with observability, retries, and fallbacks.
• Set architectural direction for AI-powered product workflows and APIs.
• Partner with ML leadership to translate model capability into features.
