Job summary

Symetra is seeking an Associate STD Case Manager to evaluate and decide on short-term disability and absence management claims. You will gather clinical, vocational, and financial information, apply contracts and regulations, and document decisions clearly in the claim system.

You’ll communicate with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to high-quality customer service. In this hybrid role, you’ll join a collaborative team, maintain compliance, and strive to meet or exceed

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree a plus.
• 1-3 years of STD claims experience preferred.
• Knowledge of STD, SDI, and Absence management products and regulations preferred.
• Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and pathology preferred.
• Excellent communication, decision-making, and organizational skills.
• Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
• NY Independent Adjuster license or related certifications (e.g., FMLA Specialist) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Make timely, accurate, and customer-focused STD, SDI, and AM new and ongoing claim decisions. Reach out to obtain relevant clinical, vocational, employer, financial, and other information. Compare information to contract terms and procedural documents and render the claim decision quickly. Document the claim systems accurately and comprehensively while maintaining efficiency. Prepare and disseminate articulate written and verbal communication to internal and external sources. Maintain a claim management plan to attain the best outcome. Stay compliant with regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a superior level of genuine caring and empathetic customer service throughout all interactions. Earn claimant’s and employer’s trust and confidence. Anticipate customer needs and take proactive actions.
• Work as a team to support one another through flexibility, collaboration, and a positive work environment while maintaining professionalism and integrity.
