Job summary

Ethos Life is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer to lead our SRE organization in the US. You will help set the technical direction for building, running, and scaling production systems—from core AWS/Kubernetes infra to internal AI platform tooling.

This senior, hands-on IC will design and build critical infrastructure, lead cross-team initiatives from concept to delivery, and raise the reliability bar by partnering with product teams, including contributing PRs to codebases.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of full-time software engineering experience in SRE, Infrastructure, Platform, DevOps, or Backend SWE.
• Track record leading multi-team infrastructure or reliability initiatives beyond your team.
• Strong coding in Golang, Python, or TypeScript with engineering best practices.
• Deep experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform; Kubernetes operators a plus.
• Understanding of distributed systems, PostgreSQL, CI/CD, and observability tooling.
• Hands-on experience implementing SLIs/SLOs, incident response, and post-mortems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to design docs and explain trade-offs.
• Desire to remove toil while balancing reliability, velocity, and cost.

Responsibilities

• Set multi-quarter technical strategy for reliability, infra, and platform tooling.
• Architect cross-cutting infrastructure systems and review technical specs.
• Influence engineering teams to adopt reliability best practices.
• Mentor SREs across US and Bangalore; participate in interviews.
• Define framework for SLIs/SLOs and error budgets; instrument and monitor.
• Lead incident response and blameless post-mortems to reduce recurrence.
• Lead capacity planning, disaster recovery, and failure-mode testing.
• Evolve observability strategy and ensure sustainable on-call.
• Design and operate AWS cloud infrastructure with IaC, Kubernetes, GitOps.
• Architect AI gateway governance, data connectors, and secure model routing.
• Ensure security/compliance through automated scanning and data guards.
• Build internal tools and self-service platforms to improve developer productivity.
• Eliminate toil by automating repetitive engineering tasks.
