Job summary

Ethos is seeking a Staff Site Reliability Engineer to lead reliability, scalability, and cost-efficiency across production systems in the US. You will set technical direction, design complex infrastructure, and mentor SREs both in the US and India.

You will own reliability metrics (SLIs/SLOs), oversee incident response, and drive scalable AI platform tooling and governance with a focus on security and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience: 10+ years of full-time software engineering experience in relevant roles (SRE, Infrastructure, Platform, DevOps, or Backend SWE).
• Staff-Level Impact: A track record of leading complex multi-team infrastructure or reliability initiatives.
• Software Engineering: Strong coding skills in Golang, Python, or TypeScript and engineering best practices.
• Cloud & Platform Expertise: Deep hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Systems Knowledge: Understanding of distributed systems, PostgreSQL, CI/CD, and observability tooling.
• Reliability Practice: Experience implementing SLIs/SLOs, incident response, and post-mortems.
• Communication: Clear written and verbal communication; ability to influence across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set multi-quarter reliability and platform strategy with SRE and engineering leadership.
• Lead design of cross-cutting infrastructure systems and review technical proposals.
• Mentor SREs and participate in interviews to raise hiring bar.
• Define and instrument SLIs/SLOs and error budgets; drive post-mortems to reduce recurrence.
• Manage capacity planning, disaster recovery, and testing for resilience.
• Evolve monitoring and alerting to detect failures early and sustain on-call.
• Build and operate AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Kubernetes.
• Design AI platform tooling and governance for model routing and data safety.
• Lead cost optimization initiatives and metering for cloud usage.
• Develop internal tooling and CI/CD to improve product engineering productivity.
