Job summary

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - SRE to boost reliability of Grafana Cloud databases (Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Pyroscope) across AWS, GCP, Azure. You will own production reliability for high-SLA environments, collaborate with embedded product squads, and drive automation to scale reliability while reducing toil.

You’ll lead incident responses, define SLOs, and shape multi-tenant design, with strong emphasis on autonomy, transparency, and mentoring within a fully remote global team.

Qualifications

• 8+ years engineering experience, 4+ in SRE/production engineering with customer reliability focus.
• Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with IaC tools (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet).
• Proven leadership: mentoring engineers, leading projects, and acting as a force-multiplier.
• Experience running multi-tenant production systems and defining SLOs.
• Proficiency in one or more languages (Go, Python, Java, etc.).
• Solid Linux internals knowledge, plus networking, cloud storage, and scaling.
• Excellent problem-solving, diagnostics, and incident post-mortems (PIRs).
• Autonomy with strong collaboration; partner with product engineering teams; teach others.

Responsibilities

• Regular 1:1s with manager and colleagues to align on priorities.
• Review and create SLOs; investigate ways to reduce budget burn and improve monitoring.
• Improve observability and self-healing to meet growing demand.
• Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant reliability patterns.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders to influence product strategy and designs.
• Participate in PR reviews; share design docs and best practices.
• Lead incident response, post-incident reviews, and customer communications.
• Promote automation to eliminate toil and reduce noisy escalations.
• Mentor engineers and advocate for production-first thinking in features.
