Job summary

Deepgram is hiring a Staff Conversational Designer to own how our voice agents converse, including persona, turn-taking, repair, and confirmation. You will work closely with ML and Engineering on latency budgets and endpointing, building evaluative methods and developer-facing guidance for producing natural conversations on the Voice Agent API.

This role offers a remote-first setup with a Pacific Time base and preference for candidates in San Francisco.

Qualifications

• Deep experience designing conversational behavior for LL M-based voice agents or assistants
• Experience with end-to-end design of prompts, turn-taking, repair and confirmation patterns
• Ability to ship measurable conversational quality and evals

Responsibilities

• Define persona and voice system for Deepgram voice agents
• Design turn-taking, barge-in, and end-of-turn behavior with ML and Eng
• Design repair, no-match and no-input handling and confirmation strategies
• Own latency-aware pacing and perceived responsiveness within real-time budgets
• Establish conversational-quality evals and transcript review practices
• Build reference agent experiences and developer-facing design guidance
• Partner with ML and Research on ASR and TTS behavior
• Set design principles and shared vocabulary for the team
