McGraw Hill is hiring two Software Engineering Managers to lead Connect engineering teams building and evolving digital learning products. You will drive delivery, team health, and technical excellence while partnering across product, design, and security in a SOX- and SOC 2–compliant environment.

This remote role requires strong communication, broad technical judgment across web and cloud technologies, and a track record of growing engineering teams in an agile setting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development experience with at least 2 years in engineering leadership.
• Proven ability to grow engineering teams in an agile environment.
• Hands-on experience across web stack: frontend (JavaScript/TypeScript, React/Angular) and backend (Java/Node.js).
• Experience with scalable microservices and cloud-based environments (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop software engineering teams for quality and delivery.
• Manage vendor teams and partnerships to support delivery and alignment with goals.
• Own team commitments and ensure high-quality work on time.
• Translate product/design requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Communicate decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.
• Apply broad technical judgment across web applications, microservices, databases, AWS, CI/CD.
• Partner with teams to integrate systems, including third-party platforms.
• Ensure SOX/SOC 2 controls and auditability are embedded in daily practices.
• Promote engineering excellence in code quality, testing, performance, reliability.
• Drive automation, observability, and continuous delivery practices.
• Stay current on tech trends to inform strategy and direction.
