Job summary

ICF is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to lead complex design and analysis for utility transmission line projects. You will mentor junior engineers, ensure high-quality deliverables, and apply standards and regulatory knowledge across diverse assignments while collaborating with clients and team members from a remote home office.

Qualifications

• B.S. in electrical, civil, mechanical, or power engineering.
• 5+ years of transmission line engineering experience.
• 5+ years with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm.
• 5+ years experience in PLS-CADD.
• Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ANSI, FERC-881, and FAC-008 standards.
• Ability to plan and manage assignments and communicate barriers to complete tasks on budget/schedule.
• Initiative to learn and master programs and services you represent.

Responsibilities

• Design transmission lines from conceptual through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis.
• Provide senior-level technical expertise ensuring accuracy, best practices, and leading design solutions.
• Perform studies such as conductor economics, lightning performance, grounding calculations, and clearance determinations per NESC and standards.
• Interpret and apply regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and regional standards across deliverables.
• Prepare and review technical docs: specs, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawings, and purchase recommendations.
• Collaborate with project managers on scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing, construction support, and change orders.
• Perform QA/QC for deliverables, CAD outputs, and field issues; resolve design-related issues.
• Lead field inspections, measurements, calculations, and installation reviews for public and private clients.
• Develop and present technical reports; support marketing and business development; build client relationships.
