Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer for production support. This 100% remote US-based role reports to Veterans Affairs and requires an active Public Trust (MBI) clearance.

You will manage large-scale production systems, implement IaC, automate tasks, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure system stability and security. Eight-plus years of experience and a bachelor’s degree are expected.

Qualifications

• Experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms and cloud-native tooling.
• Strong Linux/Unix and Windows system administration skills.
• Automation scripting in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or SaltStack.
• Knowledge of IaC and CloudFormation or equivalent tools.
• Familiar with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Dynatrace, Science Logic).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows.
• Understanding of databases (AWS RDS SQL Server, Oracle RDS).

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level production support for complex cloud-based systems.
• Develop solutions for routine technical problems within scope.
• Document issues and communicate status to users and management.
• Maintain and install computing infrastructure and security controls.
• Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure reliability.
• On-call support as required to maintain production systems.
