Job summary

American Family Insurance seeks an experienced attorney to manage complex litigation for the corporation and insureds. You will supervise outside counsel, draft reservations of rights, and provide strategic recommendations within professional responsibility guidelines.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Legal, you will handle high-stakes cases, coordinate with Coverage, and advise business partners as needed. The role may involve up to 50% travel and remote work options.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
• Demonstrated experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery and deposing witnesses.
• Demonstrated litigation experience.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.
• Bar admission within 1 year of hire or as soon as practicable.

Responsibilities

• Manage caseload to obtain successful outcomes by proactively managing Outside Counsel.
• Hold outside counsel accountable for meeting company requirements.
• Develop and implement strategy to drive files toward resolution and trial readiness.
• Perform initial file analysis and ongoing strategy adjustments based on litigation needs.
• Escalate and report on files as required; participate in reviews with management and attorney teams.
• Incorporate reserve analysis and coverage considerations into case evaluations and engage Coverage partners when appropriate.
