Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a lawyer to manage outside counsel and drive litigation strategy across file lifecycles. You will ensure adherence to best practices, coordinate with management and the attorney team, and provide updates to leadership.

The role requires strong civil litigation experience, knowledge of professional responsibility rules, and bar admission in the applicable jurisdiction. Travel up to 50% may be required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor required and bar admission in the practice state.
• Experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery.
• Litigation experience with exposure to insurance defense matters.
• Strong knowledge of professional responsibility rules.

Responsibilities

• Proactively managing Outside Counsel.
• Holding outside counsel accountable for meeting the requirements of the Company.
• Implementing strategy to drive the file toward successful resolution.
• Developing defense strategy across the life cycle of the file.
• Adhering to litigation best practices and trial preparations.
• Escalating and reporting on files in a timely manner.
• Collaborating with management and attorney teams on review and risk management.
• Presenting files to senior leadership and managing file close.
• Implementing reserving practices and adjusting reserves as needed.
• Early recognition of coverage issues and engaging Coverage partners.
