Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking an experienced attorney to manage Outside Counsel and oversee litigation strategy in civil matters. You will hold outside counsel accountable, develop defense tactics, and ensure adherence to professional responsibility and discovery procedures.

The role requires Juris Doctor, bar admission in the appropriate state, strong knowledge of tort, contract, and insurance law, and the ability to interact with senior leadership. Travel up to 50% may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience preparing civil pleadings, motions and discovery, and deposing witnesses.
• Customer-driven solutions or service mindset in legal contexts.
• Solid knowledge of tort, contract, and insurance law.

Responsibilities

• Proactively managing Outside Counsel.
• Holding outside counsel accountable for meeting requirements of the Company.
• Developing defense strategy and guiding files toward resolution.
• Analyzing and developing strategy for the life cycle of a file, with adjustments as litigation dictates.
• Adhering to litigation best practices and proper trial preparations.
• Timely escalation and reporting on files to management and attorney teams.
• Presenting files to senior leadership and coordinating with coverage partners as needed.
