Job summary

Defense Unicorns is hiring a Mid to Senior Software Engineer to help migrate from legacy on-prem systems to a cloud-native platform. You will design and build scalable ETL/ELT data pipelines, own end-to-end delivery, and advocate best practices in security, RBAC/ABAC, and distributed architectures.

You will work with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders on the US Navy team, delivering modern APIs, scalable data transformations, and cloud-based services while contributing to architecture

Qualifications

• 3+ years (mid) or 5+ years (senior) software engineering experience.
• Expert level proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, TypeScript, Python).
• Strong understanding of system design, API development, workflow orchestration, relational databases, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Deep knowledge of database design, schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience leading teams through decomposing monolithic apps into microservices communicating via APIs.
• Experience with RESTful services and frameworks like FastAPI or ASP.NET.
• Experience with authorization, data governance, security telemetry, and RBAC/ABAC for enterprise data privacy.
• Familiar with Core Kubernetes concepts including Controllers, Operators, and CRDs.

Responsibilities

• Translate requirements with data architects and stakeholders into technical solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain complex ETL/ELT workflows and data pipelines.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and security protocols.
• Create optimized data transformations and metadata lineage.
• Refactor on-prem systems to cloud-based services and architectures.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and code reviews.
• Drive best practices in microservice design, testing, observability, and CI/CD.
