Job summary

Defense Unicorns is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to work on open source products and collaborate with product managers, designers, and end users to shape the right solutions with high quality execution.

You will lead design, implementation, and deployment of features that impact mission outcomes, bridging product development with open source contributions and ensuring interoperability with defense systems. A remote role within the United States is offered.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience with software engineering.
• Experience building a software tool with core focuses on software lifecycle and management.
• Proficient in Go (Golang).
• Strong understanding of system design, libraries and software APIs, and cloud architecture (AWS/Azure).
• Experience contributing to Open Source Projects; CNCF/ASF/OpenSSF is a plus.
• Familiar with Core Kubernetes Concepts including Controllers, Operators, and CRDs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills for technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal engineers and the open source community on feature and bug fixes.
• Engage with industry partners and standards bodies to advance open source projects.
• Deliver end-user focused experiences and produce case studies, blogs, or talks.
• Identify and resolve ambiguity in product requirements.
• Work effectively in a remote environment and manage time efficiently.
• Integrate software products with defense systems ensuring interoperability and security.
• Own architecture decisions and maintain technical quality across the team.
• Develop design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance guides.
• Stay current with emerging technologies to inform product improvements.
• Provide technical mentorship and raise engineering standards.
